Random Discovery

While peroozing the inter-webs for a new random fact, I found this: "Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people do." Oh yeah? Then are righties so bad at dueling left handed people? It would seem lefties have the advantage. I have also compiled a list of famous left handed people. Jim Lovell, Henry Ford, Albert Einstein, Rip Torn, Don Rickles, Harpo Marx, Bart Simpson, Howie Mandel, Jerry Seinfeld, Spike Lee, Jim Henson, David Letterman, and Buzz Aldrin. (Second comes right after first!)

Lunacy

Today was the kickoff event of the 2009 First Robotics Competition. I had to get to my school at 6:30 in the morning to see the live broadcast of the new game description. That sucks since it was 9:30 in Manchester N.H. which is where the event took place. After the founder of First, Dean Kamen (who is pictured above), gave a speech the all new 2009 game was unveiled.
"Lunacy" is played on a low-friction surface that makes robot control much more difficult. This is supposed to simulate the driving conditions on the moon. To further add to the madness, the robots must used special wheels that help you're robot lose control. For a more complete description of this year's game, visit NASA's website. Our team has just six weeks to build a fully operational robot. Go Team 696!

Clark Chronicle

Today was the last school day of 2008! It was also the day that I got the latest edition of "The Clark Chronicle." It's one interesting student made newspaper. To read the latest edition, you can visit this site. The main article was about drug use happening right under our noses at a park just a few steps from my school. That sure made me feel safe.
I found a graph with some very handy information, except there were no labels. I had no idea what to then, so I check out a different graph. This one did have labels, but they were color coded, and the paper is printed in black-and-white. Again, I was confused. Next, I found that the pictures of "the latest holiday gadgets" had somehow been switched around. In many of the articles there is the happy message that we shouldn't worry so much about how we appear to others. I find these messages hard to find sincere because, on the back of every issue, there is a large advertisement for the "Smooth Skin Laser Clinic." I felt sure that a nice simple article about our school's strict dress code enforcement might make a little more sense. It started off just fine, but it soon turned into an article about our school's drug enforcement. The article sums up by saying that "If so many people are being punished for not following the dress code, surely the school is absolutely on top of issues like drugs." I understand that this article was published in the opinions section, but what kind of logic is used to say something like that? I think that if Clark is so good at catching dress code offenders, they would be good at finding silly mistakes in their newspaper. Please fix these problems with Clark's newspaper. Many of the articles our very well-written. I just want our school's newspaper to be a little more professional. Also, add a crossword or something. Sometimes I get bored during enrichment.

Free iPhone?

My dad just told me that if the Dodgers hit a grand slam in the fourth inning of tomorrow's game, I'll win an iPhone! He says the odds are about 320 to 1. I like those odds!!
P.S. I didn't win.

Wicked!!

Last night my family and I went to see the musical Wicked. I would definitely recommend Wicked, even to someone who doesn't like musicals. I liked how everything was so Steam Punkish.

School's Back!

Today was my first day at High School. Yay? My new school is a magnet school for science and technology. I even think I saw a computer on the first day. But I'm sure there're hiding in one of the schools THREE computer labs. Can you believe that?!? They have three!!
